The Slinger Signaller Level 2 NVQ is a competency-based qualification, designed to demonstrate that you are working at the correct level in your role as a slinger/signaller. By completing this qualification, you not only show that you meet the required standards, but you also open the door to new employment or career progression opportunities.

NOTE: You should have approximately two years of relevant experience and currently be employed in a suitable role.

What happens during this NVQ?

The NVQ can be booked either directly by you or by your employer on your behalf. First, to enquire, you will need to complete the online form. Afterwards, once enrolled, you will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will arrange an induction meeting. During this meeting, they will explain how you can gather and present your portfolio of evidence.

The induction can take place either remotely or on-site. Furthermore, to keep you on track, the assessor will schedule regular review meetings. Throughout the process, your competence will be assessed on-site using various methods, such as:

  • Written questions.
  • Workplace-generated evidence.
  • Direct observations.
  • Professional discussions.
  • Witness testimonials.

Passing this NVQ

To pass the NVQ, you must collect all the required evidence for each unit. Once you have submitted this, the assessor will review your portfolio and provide feedback if necessary.

After you have responded to any feedback, the portfolio will be sent to the IQA. Finally, the IQA will determine whether your qualification is complete or if additional evidence is required.

      Typically, completion takes 4–6 months. While support is available to ensure completion within six months, your progress depends on how quickly you meet the requirements.

      Additionally, assessors will work around your schedule, making this qualification highly flexible.

    • How do I obtain my CSCS card after completion?

      Upon completion, you must apply to CSCS directly, providing your NVQ certificate details.

      Moreover, you will need to pass the relevant CITB Health, Safety & Environment test before applying.

    • What are the entry requirements?

      This qualification assesses your competence in your current job role. Therefore, you must be working as a Slinger Signaller and be at least 16 years old.

      If you are unsure about your suitability, your application will be reviewed, and an alternative course may be recommended.

    • Is this NVQ accredited?

      This NVQ is accredited by ProQual or GQA Qualification.

    • Is this NVQ CITB Grant claimable?
      Grant eligibility

      This course is grant claimable via both CITB Skills and the Training Fund & Achievement Grant.

      This can be claimed by CITB registered companies for all NVQs (with the exception of Occupational Health & Safety).

      The CITB Skills and Training Fund is a funding pot that micro, small and medium sized construction companies can use to improve the skills of the construction industry.

      You can apply if:

      • you are a CITB-registered employer
      • you have 1-250 directly employed staff on the payroll
      • any previous project paid for by the Skills and Training fund has been signed off as complete.
