Why Should You Take the NRSWA Operative Course?

The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) requires every street works site to include at least one qualified operative. If you intend to work on these sites, you must earn an NRSWA qualification to meet legal standards

Most employers will ask to see your SWQR card before allowing you to work. You receive this card after successfully completing the NRSWA Operative Course. By completing the training, you prove your competence and your ability to follow industry safety procedures.

The training combines theory-based learning with practical exercises to ensure full comprehension of street works duties.

You will cover the following core NRSWA units:

  • LA – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus (includes CAT & Genny training).
  • O1 – Signing, lighting and guarding.
  • O2 – Excavation in the highway.
  • O3 – Reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials.
