Rainscreen Cladding Supervisor Training

Course Overview

This two-day course is currently in development as part of a pilot scheme in conjunction with CITB.

The course is being developed in line with CITB’s Rainscreen Facade Systems – Supervisors Upskilling Training standard. The purpose of this standard is to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills to support the technical leadership, supervision and quality assurance of installing rainscreen façade systems.

The pilot will run over 12 months from January 2026. Courses will be FREE to attend, but there will be limited places available.

What you’ll learn

The Rainscreen Facade Systems Supervisor Course will provide delegates with the knowledge and skills to ensure compliant installation of rainscreen façade systems.

The two-day in-depth course involves inspection of the backing wall, carrier system installation, cavity barrier installation, and the installation of rainscreen panels in relation to up-to-date legislation.

The course involves classroom and practical outdoor training.

Need to Resit?

If you don’t pass your assessment, you will be able to re-sit this once on the day of the course.

Rainscreen Façade Systems Supervisor Course Content

The in-depth course will cover:

Day 1

Identifying the key factors of the legislation relevant to the installation of Rainscreen Façade Systems, including:

  • The Building Safety Act 2022
  • The Building Regulations 2010
  • Fire safety – Approved document B (including Euro class ratings)
  • The Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Working at Height Regulations
  • Specific legislation for the country where the Rainscreen Façade System is being.

Explaining the purpose of the component parts of a compliant Rainscreen Façade System, including:

  • Rainscreen panels
  • Ventilation space
  • Cavity barriers (including fire ratings)
  • Air and vapour control barriers
  • Façade insulation and attachment
  • Carrier systems
  • The backing wall.

 

Day 2

Identify, record, report and rectify (where appropriate) installation defects, including:

  • How to identify installation defects
  • Recording installation defects
  • Reporting installation defects
  • How to rectify installation defects that effect:
    • structural performance
    • fire performance
    • safety
    • weather resistance
    • thermal performance
    • acoustic performance

Interpreting and recording sources of information for the task or activity, including:

  • Drawings and specifications
  • Schedules
  • Risk assessments
  • Method statements
  • Manufacturers’ information
  • Material safety data sheet
  • Fixing strategy (type of fastener)
  • The fixing detail/legend (number and location)
  • Inspection and test plans (ITP)
  • Setting out lines and levels
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
  • Current legislation and regulations governing buildings
  • The change control process.

Demonstrating how to check and record quality. Plus, setting out and accuracy of work on completion, at a hold point, and at the end of each working period, including:

  • Drawings and specifications
  • manufacturers’ information
  • Fixing strategy
  • Inspection and test plans (ITP).

  • What are the course entry requirements?
    What are the course entry requirements?

    Learners must have successfully completed training in the following aspects of Rainscreen Façade systems installation:

    • Inspect backing walls to receive rainscreen façade systems
    • Install carrier systems
    • Install open and closed state cavity barriers
    • Install Rain Screen Façade systems

    or have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the installation of Rainscreen Façade Systems or have been working in a supervisory role for a contractor who installs rainscreen façade systems.

  • Is there an exam for this course?

    For the successful completion of the course, delegates must complete a multiple-choice assessment with a minimum pass mark of 80%.

  • Are assessments available in languages other than English?

    Exams are only available in English.

  • How long does the Rainscreen Cladding Supervisor course take?

    The Rainscreen Cladding Supervisor course is delivered over 2-days.

  • I'm an Installer, is this the right course for me?

  • Are there any pre-requisites to be able to attend this course?

    Yes. Delegates must have successfully completed the Installer Training course or, be able to demonstrate five years’ experience in the installation of rainscreen façade systems or be working in a supervisory role for a contractor who installs rainscreen façade systems.

  • How long after the course before I receive my certificate?

    Certificates will be issued 6-8 weeks after course completion.

  • How long is the Rainscreen Cladding Supervisor certificate valid?

    The Rainscreen Cladding Supervisor certificate is valid for 5 years after completion.
