If you’ve ever thought about taking an NVQ but weren’t sure how long it takes, what the process involves, or how to fund it, then rest assured — you’re not alone.
To help clear up some of the mystery, we sat down with our NVQ Key Account Coordinator, Sam, for a quick interview. Sam works closely with learners and employers every day, guiding them from their first enquiry right through to certification.
Sam is our NVQ Key Accounts Coordinator at 3B Training. In her role, she supports NVQ learners and helps companies to meet their workforce development and training goals.
With her approachable nature and strong knowledge of workforce development, Sam also ensures that learners stay motivated and employers gain the skilled, qualified staff they need. Moreover, her dedication helps create lasting impacts for individuals’ careers and the wider construction industry.
In this blog, we share the answers from Sam in the video “An Interview with an NVQ Expert” to address common queries learners and companies may have about NVQs. Read on to explore the full interview.
Sam: “We always say three to six months, but currently our average is around two months.”
Sam: “A myth is that NVQs are just for young people doing trades. That’s not the case. We offer qualifications from level two to level seven, including managerial and supervisor qualifications too.”
Sam: “We offer a variety of NVQs, from level three Supervisors or the Occupational Work Supervision, to Contracting Operations if you’re more office-based. We also offer level six and level seven higher management qualifications. So, whatever job you’re currently doing in construction, we can help you find an NVQ.”
Sam: “So, the NVQ process is really straightforward. We first start with an application form, which you fill out and send back. We will then go through the Pre-Assessment process. Whether you are at level three or level seven, the assessor will review the qualifications that best suit you. Next, we will send you the booking form so we can get you started. Once you are booked on your NVQ, the assessor will complete an induction. They will go through the ePortfolio system, Bud, and advise you on the best next steps, whether that involves knowledge questions or professional discussions.”
Sam: “We do assist with the funding options for you. We can look at the Achievement Grant and the Skills and Fund Bid, and help you get the most out of your levy payments. If you’re an individual person buying an NVQ, we do also offer payment plan options.”
Sam: “I love my job from start to finish. We help companies, with NVQs where they’re struggling to find them to meet the criteria for individuals. I also like helping the individuals who don’t think they’re able to achieve certain NVQs, and then seeing them gain confidence—it’s just great to see.
