NVQ Level 2 in Plastering is a competence-based qualification for learners who work in the construction sector as a plasterer. You can use the qualification to show that you are knowledgeable and competent in your role.
This qualification will ensure that you have all the knowledge that you need to work as a full-time plasterer; you will also leave with a qualification that can open employment and progression opportunities.
Once you have been registered, we will appoint you an assessor. The assessor will support you in developing your portfolio during the qualification. Then they will carry out an induction; this can be completed on-site or remotely.
Throughout the induction, the assessor will assist you in planning out how you can gather all the evidence required to complete the qualification. They will also continually evaluate your progress to ensure that you on track and to check if you need any guidance.
You will be assessed on-site through various methods, such as professional discussion, written questions, witness testimonials, observations and evidence generated from the workplace.
You will need to achieve all of the units to show that you are competent enough to hold the NVQ qualification. The assessor will then examine your work and present any feedback. Once you have returned your feedback, an IQA will then receive your portfolio. The IQA will decide whether the qualification is complete or if any additional evidence is needed.
Upon completion of the qualification, you will receive an NVQ certificate and apply for your Skilled Worker Card. This card will be evidence of your proven competence. A Level 2 NVQ is a lifelong qualification that does not need to be renewed.
Further qualifications for a construction plasterer include the NVQ Level 3 in Plastering (Construction). This NVQ is the next step up if you are taking on extra responsibility in your role.
You may also want to improve your safety knowledge by completing the Safe Use Of Ladders & Step Ladders and UKATA Asbestos Awareness courses. These qualifications will help to protect yourself and others in your day-to-day work.

The NVQ length is dependant on how quickly you can collect the required evidence.
You can complete the NVQ at your own pace. If you have all the evidence prepared, you can finish it pretty quickly. It is also ideal to fit the qualification around your schedule, as you can complete it in your own time.
Plasterers who work in the construction industry looking to obtain their Blue CSCS Card or Skilled Worker card should attend this course. The skills card is used as proof that you are qualified to be conducting your role.
Having an NVQ can be very beneficial as it holds a lot of weight in the industry as a recognised qualification. Employers and customers will favour those with an NVQ and a blue CSCS card when looking for plasterers.
The qualification will assess your ability in your current job role, so you must be working as a Plasterer to complete the NVQ.
You must also be at least the age of 16 to enrol.
If you are uncertain whether you are suitable for the Level 2 NVQ, you can contact 3B Training via the enquiry form on this page for a suitability check. If we find that the qualification isn’t suitable, we will find you a different one.
The NVQ can be either ProQual or GQA accredited.
Both awarding bodies provide vocational qualifications for the construction and civil engineering sector. Their qualifications are continually reviewed to ensure that they are up to date and relevant for their learners.
