NVQ Level 4 in Supervising Lifts is a competence-based qualification. You can use the NVQ to show that you are qualified to work at the appropriate level for your role when supervising lifts on a construction site. This qualification will develop your knowledge in lifting operations and coordinating work.

NVQ Level 4 in Controlling Lifting Operations content

Upon enrollment.

You will be assigned an assessor. The assessor will help you to build your portfolio throughout the qualification.

They will also carry out an on-site induction.

We can deliver this remotely if you’d prefer.

Throughout the induction.

The assessor will plan how you will collect all the relevant evidence to achieve your qualification. This will be followed up with regular reviews to ensure that you remain on track.

The assessor will review you through various methods such as professional discussion, evidence generated from the workplace, witness testimonials, written questions and observations.

You must show evidence of:

  • Allocating Work and Checking People’s Performance
  • Supervising Lifting Operations Using Lifting Equipment
  • Co-ordinating and Organising the Control of Work
  • Maintaining the Dimensional Accuracy of Work
  • Co-ordinating Preparation Work for Site or Lifting Operations
  • Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships
  • Maintaining Systems for Health, Safety, Welfare and Environmental Protection
  • Allocating and Monitoring the Use of Plant, Equipment or Machinery

To pass, you will need to complete all of their required units to show that you are competent enough for the qualification. Your work will then be reviewed by the assessor and fed back. Once any feedback has been responded to, the portfolio will go to an IQA. The IQA will decide whether the qualification is complete or if any additional evidence is needed.

How much does the NVQ Level 4 in Controlling Lifting Operations cost?

The cost of this qualification is £1200 +VAT.

How long is a Level 4 in Controlling Lifting Operations NVQ?

The time it takes to finish the NVQ is dependant on how quickly you can gather the relevant evidence to complete each unit.

You can complete the qualification at your own speed; there is no set time limit. The NVQ format is highly flexible. You can arrange your evidence gathering and assessments around your schedule.

Why should I take this NVQ?

Construction Operatives looking to obtain the Blue CPCS Card or Blue Competent Operator card should register onto this NVQ. By having the card, you will show that you are accountable and qualified at supervising lifting operations.

NVQs are highly recognised throughout the industry and hold a lot of weight with employers and peers. The qualification will help you progress in your role and gain opportunities for skilled work within your company or elsewhere.

NVQ Level 4 in Controlling Lifting Operations entry requirements

You must be 16 or over and be working as a Lift Supervisor or Crane Supervisor. The qualification will assess your ability to work in your current occupation.

Where can I complete this NVQ?

Our NVQs are available to learners across the country. Learners or companies booking on their behalf can book an NVQ over the phone or via our website online.

The majority of your qualification can be completed by you, in your workplace. You can complete some of your units remotely with your assessor and the rest face-to-face on-site.

Is this NVQ accredited?

Either ProQual or GQA can accredit this course.

Both awarding bodies are occupational course providers for the construction industry.  They provide qualifications that are up to date, relevant and often unique to their learners.

Further development

Upon completion of the qualification, you will be able to apply for the Blue Competent Operator Card and show that you have the relevant qualifications to work as a Lift Supervisor.

You will also receive an accredited course certificate. The qualification does not need to be renewed and, therefore, does not expire.

You will also need to complete an NPORS Accredited Course to obtain the Red Trained Operator Card. NPORS offers a range of Lift Trucks & Cranes courses. Take a look at the course available here.

Is this NVQ CITB Grant claimable?

Yes, Both CITB Skills and Training Fund & Grants can be claimed by CITB registered companies for all NVQs (with the exception of Occupational Health & Safety).

The CITB Skills and Training Fund is a pot of funding that micro, small  and medium sized construction companies can use to improve the skills of the construction industry.

You can apply if:

  • you are a CITB-registered employer
  • you have 1-250 directly employed staff on the payroll
  • any previous project paid for by the Skills and Training fund has been signed off as complete.
