FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS?

  • What is face fit testing?
    What is face fit testing?

Face fit testing determines whether RPE or Respiratory Protective Equipment correctly fits an individual.

It must fit without breaking the tight seal to their face.

By successfully completing the test, the wearer can undertake work around harmful respiratory hazards.

  • Is face fit testing a legal requirement?

Yes, it is a legal requirement for anyone who is required to wear tight fitting RPE for their work.

This is an approved code of practice under the COSHH Regulations 2002.

  • Why must RPE be tested?
    Ensuring the wearer is protected

If RPE isn’t tested by a competent person, the wearer may not have a tight seal to their face.

As a result, they will be at risk of consuming harmful substances. These can include construction dust or gases from their work activities.
