Where can I complete this course?

Public Classroom Courses

Classroom-based SMSTS course can be delivered as a five-day block or as an SMSTS Day Release. Both versions are available in our training centres throughout the country. The tutor delivers the course in a traditional classroom format to up to 12 delegates at a time. The day release format is favourable to companies who prefer not to have a Site Manager off-site for a whole five days in a row. It also allows delegates more time to revise and do their work at home and manage work commitments simultaneously.

We have multiple public dates available to book throughout the year. Classroom courses can be booked over the phone or online by delegates themselves or companies booking on behalf of their employees.  View all our upcoming CITB SMSTS course dates here.

Remote Learning

The Remote Learning SMSTS Day Release offers even more flexibility than the classroom course. Delegates don’t even need to be off-site to attend the course; they can log in from the site via a computer or laptop. The course is delivered on virtual conferencing software Zoom. Delegates log into the virtual classroom via the link provided to access the course. The tutor will deliver all the same content as the classroom-based course, and delegates can still interact with fellow delegates and the tutor over webchat and video. Delegates are provided with a downloadable digital copy of the coursebook, and the final exam is completed online.

We have multiple dates for the Remote Learning course available to book online or over the phone.

In-house Courses

If one of our public course dates doesn’t fit in with a clients schedule, we can arrange an in-house course specifically for their delegates. This course can be delivered in the classroom or remotely whenever they please within the 5 weeks. To deliver an in-house directors course, there must be a minimum of 4 delegates and no more than 12. We price each in-house course on a case by case basis; the price may vary depending on location, delivery style and delegate numbers.

If you would like us to quote, complete the in house training enquiry form on this page, and one of the team will be in touch.

Further development

When you have completed the course, you will receive your certificate within 6-8 weeks. The certificate will expire five years after course completion.

To renew your SMSTS qualification, you need to attend an SMSTS Refresher before the certificate expires. Otherwise, you will have to complete the full course again.

The natural progression from the SMSTS course is to gain the Black Manager CSCS Card. This card is used to prove your competence as a Site Manager. To gain the card, you will need to complete the NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management; this is a competence-based qualification in which you will need to provide evidence of your work. The SMSTS certificate can be used as evidence for this qualification.

If you are looking to develop your construction health & safety knowledge, you may want to complete the NEBOSH Construction Certificate? The qualification is ideal for those who want to become a health & safety professional in the industry.

Is this course CITB Grant claimable?

Yes, the SMSTS course is grant claimable. Companies that are CITB registered can claim a £120 grant for each delegate. To claim the grant, you must include the company name and CITB Levy number on the delegate information form either at the time of booking or on the day of the course.
