IPAF 3a and 3b

IPAF 3a 3b course trains delegates on how to operate mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).

Workers who operate MEWPs within their role, and individuals that supervise or manage the use of powered access will benefit from this IPAF MEWP training.

This training course will instruct a MEWP operator how to safely operate various types of MEWPs and prepare them. This includes the use of cherry pickers, mobile vertical, mobile boom, boom lifts, propelled boom and scissor lifts. For static boom training, have a look at our IPAF 1b course.

Our goal with this IPAF 3a 3b training, is to give you the knowledge and confidence to carry out your role more safely and effectively. With this knowledge, you will have the tools needed to increase your productivity and be proficient.

Our IPAF course is designed to enable delegates to use powered access equipments safely and effectively.  At the end of this course, you should feel more knowledgeable and confident in your role.

This IPAF training course will provide you with information on:

  • Theory – Introduction and pre-course theory test

  • Regulations – ISO 18878, European, HASAWA
  • Regulations – PUWER, LOLER, MHSW, WAHR, RIDDOR

How long is the IPAF 3a and 3b training course?

This IPAF 3a and 3b course is a 1 day course, that covers theory and practical sessions.

Entry requirements

The use of MEWPs can be physically demanding, so it is important that you are in good health and physically fit.

  • Difficulty with balance

Is the IPAF 3a and 3b training course accredited?

This course is accredited by IPAF.

You will qualify for a Powered Access License (PAL Card) if you successfully pass the course. This card will be valid for five years.

You can access your PAL card via ePAL, which is IPAF’s free mobile phone app.

How is this course delivered?

This course is delivered as a public course or in-house course at our Blackburn and Doncaster venues, or on a customer’s site.

Public Courses

With our public courses, the theory will be completed in the classroom on the day.

Classroom Theory Course: This is a one full day course that covers theory and practical sessions.

In-house Courses

We can organise the IPAF 3a and 3b course to be delivered in-house at Blackburn or Doncaster, or on your site. You must provide the machines if you want the course delivered on your site, and your site and machines must meet IPAF requirements.

You can decide if you want to do the theory via eLearning and a half day practical session, or do a full day with theory in a classroom and practical.

Can I book IPAF 3a 3b and 1b courses together as an in-house course?

Depending on the number of delegates, you can book the IPAF 1b, 3a and 3b training as an in-house course. This course will be completed at our Blackburn training center. Speak to a member of our team for more information.

What does IPAF 3a and 3b cover?

Our IPAF 3a 3b training course trains delegates on how to operate MEWPs. This includes aerial work platforms, trailer mounted boom lifts and scissor lifts.
