EUSR Card: Frequently Asked Questions

As an EUSR (Energy and Utilities Skills Register) accredited training provider, we deliver courses that allow delegates to obtain the EUSR card on completion.

Take a look at some frequently asked questions about EUSR cards below.

What is EUSR?

EUSR stands for Energy and Utility Skills Register, which is the online register of training for the utilities and energy industries.

What is an EUSR card?

An EUSR card is a skills and safety card for people working in the utilities sector, including water, gas, and power. It acts as the utilities industry’s alternative to the CSCS card.

Like a CSCS card, an EUSR card allows access to construction sites. However, it is specifically designed for utility workers, confirming they have completed the correct training to work safely in utility environments.

Once you complete an approved EUSR course, you receive a digital EUSR card as standard. This card shows your qualifications and can be checked by employers on-site. If you prefer, you can also request a physical card for an additional cost.

An EUSR card helps employers quickly verify your training and ensures you meet industry safety standards when working on utility projects.

How long is an EUSR card valid for?

If you complete our EUSR SHEA Gas training course, this will be valid for five years before needing to refresh your knowledge by completing the course again. This is a one day course suitable for those who need the EUSR card to get on site.

If you complete any of the EUSR Excavation Safety training categories below, each category will expire after 3 years from the date you passed the course and will need to complete an EUSR Refresher for the categories relevant to you.

  • Locate Utility Services (CAT & Genny) – Category 1
  • Implement Safe (Digging) Excavating Practices – Category 2
  • Install, Inspect and Remove Timber Support Systems – Category 3
  • Install, Inspect and Remove Steel Support Systems – Category 4
  • Install, Inspect and Remove Proprietary Support Systems – Category 5

How to get an EUSR card?

To get an EUSR card you typically need to:

  1. Complete an approved EUSR training course (such as SHEA Gas, Excavation Safety, or other utilities training) through a recognised trainer like 3B Training.
  2. Pass the relevant assessments and exams as part of that course.
  3. Once you pass, you are registered on the EUSR system and issued a digital EUSR card. A physical card can often be purchased if needed.

EUSR cards are usually valid for 3–5 years, depending on the training you complete.

What is the purpose of the EUSR card?

The EUSR card exists to:

  • Record your industry safety and skills training in the utilities and energy sectors.
  • Show employers that you hold the relevant qualifications and training required for utility work.
  • Provide access to construction or work sites where utilities work is being carried out — similar to CSCS cards but focused on utility roles.

It helps employers quickly verify that you’ve completed the correct training before hiring you.

How can I check my EUSR card?

To do an EUSR card check and verify someone’s skills and training record for the EUSR scheme and programmes, you can use the EUSR Register.

How do I find my EUSR number?

You can find your EUSR ID Number on the front of your card. Here you can also find other information such as the cardholders photograph and their first and last name.

Is an EUSR card a CSCS card?

Both the EUSR and CSCS grant you access to a construction site. However, the EUSR card only allows you to carry out your role as a utility worker.  Whereas, the CSCS card is for those who need to carry out their role as a construction worker.

CSCS cards are valid for five years, whereas EUSR cards can be valid from three to five years depending on the courses you complete.

What is the EUSR course cost?

EUSR course prices vary depending on which of our courses you are choosing.

We offer the EUSR SHEA Gas training course as an online public course with dates available to book online from £194 per delegate. View upcoming dates on our ‘Find a Course’ page.  This can also be organised as an in-house course for a group of employees.

Our EUSR accredited Excavation Safety training courses are delivered in-house at a venue of your choice. Enquiries are quoted on a case by case basis. Prices will vary depending on the number of delegates, equipment needed and location.

We do also offer a 3B accredited version of the CAT & Genny training course which we have public dates available for.

What jobs can you get with an EUSR card?

An EUSR card can support roles such as:

  • Utility operatives (e.g., gas, water, power field workers)
  • Excavation and utility services labourers
  • Safety and compliance roles in the utilities sector
  • Site workers requiring utility-specific safety credentials (training categories like Locate Utility Services, Safe Excavations, support systems, etc.)

In practice, employers use the EUSR card to confirm you’re trained and safe to work on projects involving utility infrastructure.
