The NVQ Level 2 in Steelfixing Occupations is a competency-based qualification. An NVQ is used to provide evidence of the learner’s competency in their role.

ProQual or Pearson Edexcel are the accreditations for this course.


Delivery Options

NVQs are available to complete over the United Kingdom. Individuals or companies booking on their behalf can book directly online or over the phone.

Upon registration, the learner will be given an assessor. The assessor will work with the learner to build a portfolio of evidence.

They will also schedule a remote or on-site induction. The induction is done to plan out how the learner will gather the relevant evidence to achieve the NVQ. The assessor will also regularly examine the learner to make sure that they are staying on track.

Entry Requirements

The qualification will assess a learner’s competence in their current job role. Learners require to be in full employment as a Steelfixer and be the age of 16 or above.

If we think that the learner is unsuitable for the qualification, we will find one that suits them.

Course Content

What does Level 2 in Steelfixing Occupations cover?

During the NVQ process, the learner will be assessed on-site on the evidence they supply to the assessor. Delegates can supply evidence in a range of methods such as; witness testimonials, evidence generated from the workplace, professional discussion, written questions. The learner must complete a set of mandatory units.

  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices

Then the learner must earn the rest of their required credits from the choice of optional units.

  • Fixing Steel in Situ
  • Cutting and Bending Reinforcement Steel to Shape
  • Prefabricating Reinforcement Steel Sections

There is also an option to add a unit to your qualification, please note that these will not contribute to your minimum credit requirement. (Hand Signalling and Slinging the Movement of Suspended Loads).

What is Required to Pass the NVQ Level 2 in Steelfixing course?

To pass the Level 2 NVQ, the learner must finish each unit of the qualification by producing the required evidence. Once they have done so, the assessor will examine the portfolio and provide feedback in which the learner should acknowledge. Once all feedback has been addressed, the IQA will review the evidence and have the final decision on whether the qualification is complete.

Is this course CITB Grant claimable?

Yes, the course is grant claimable. CITB registered companies can claim £600 grant if they make a manual claim themselves retrospectively. Find out how to claim grant here.

Further Development

The next step upon completion would be to apply for the Skilled Worker Card. This card will be used as evidence of the learner’s competence and knowledge of steel fixing.

Further development may also include basic safety courses such as Face Fit Testing, First Aid at Work and Manual Handling.
